Parapsychology of Religion
The war between reason and religion is as old as the Book of Job and the
philosophies of Xenophanes and Epicurus. The missing link in this debate
is the relevant empirical input. Psychical research and parapsychology
study mental phenomena that relate to many traditional religious claims:
extraordinary behaviors of saints, shamans, yogis, mystics, psychics, and
prophets and that relate to what we call miracles, spirits, gods,
goddesses, demons, angels, otherworlds and higher powers. The
parapsychology of religion, a new branch of inquiry, reverts to matters of
fact that may shed light on the power of prayer, the existence of
supernatural beings, and the authenticity of miracles.
